This Italian restaurant is located in the same plaza as Tim Hortons and Indian Village in Downtown Ancaster – on Wilson Street. There is plenty of parking on the street and in the parking lot behind the restaurant. We’ve seen many restaurants come and go in this space, but I think Cacallo Nero is here to stay. The restaurant has a classic menu with contemporary additions. The décor is also classic with black and white interiors and beautiful marble tables. The white walls are accented with black fixtures, furniture and beautiful art. A bar occupies the left wall lined with bottles of liquor and win all the way to the ceiling. The dining area is large with an additional private dining area off to the right.

Since I’ve been here a few times, I’ll post a few dish. During my first visit, my friends and I were seated at the high tables by the bar. I fell in-love with the restaurant immediately. I ordered the Veal Parmesan with Pasta. The veal was delicious, crispy and tender. The pasta was alright, it needed a bit more seasoning.
Another dish worth mentioning is the Lamb Shank. It rested on a bed of vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes, topped with a Cabernet reduction glaze. The meat easily fell off the bone and it had a lovely lamb taste.
I also tried the most classic Italian dish, Spaghetti and Meatballs. Al dente spaghetti noodles with roasted tomato sauce and insanely large homemade meatballs. Maybe my palate likes salty foods, but the spaghetti and tomato sauce were a bit under-seasoned for my taste. But the meatballs were amazing.
Every time I come here, the service has been phenomenal. The staff are friendly and caring. It’s a family-friendly and comforting restaurant, serving rustic and modern Italian food.
