La Cantina

This local Italian restaurant is close to the GO station and the International Village in downtown Hamilton. There is plenty of street parking and parking lots around. The interior is dimly light with a cozy and romantic atmosphere. It was a busy Saturday night and we fortunately made reservations. We were seated immediately on the ‘fancy’ side (the other side is a lounge).

On the menu, there are a variety of antipastis, pasta dishes and main entrees. The 5 of us ordered pasta dishes. I ordered Linguine al Pescatore, the others ordered a variety of gnocchi, spaghetti and baked pasta. While we waited for our food, we snacked on some yummy bread. We were all shocked when our food arrived because the portions were huge. Definitely had it for lunch the next day. All the seafood in my tomato-based pasta was fresh and sweet. The sauce to pasta ratio was perfect, a good amount to coat everything. I tried to make a dent in my dish but it looked like I barely touched it.

Our waitress was very attentive and polite. She made sure our glasses were filled and our food was up to par. Overall, a great atmosphere for an intimate evening with fantastic, flavourful food!

    • I agree it’s pretty overpriced! But we all had a nice time, my food tasted pretty spot on, and the service was great. It’s a good restaurant to check out but I wouldn’t go regularly.
