Except for Kenneth

Except for Kenneth

Except for Kenneth is an unusual name for a restaurant but if you’ve seen their local advertisements, you’d understand and have a good laugh too. Located on Ottawa Street, the restaurant sits beside its sister restaurant Black Sheep Snack Bar and other local favourites like Canon Coffee and Southern Smoke BBQ House. The space is small with about 30-35 seats. Decor is a collection of eclectic and vintage items with a sailor theme against muted teal walls. Located in the East end of Hamilton, the area is being rejuvenated by new restaurants like Black Sheep and Except for Kenneth. You can also find an interesting collection of vintage stores, hobby stores, bakeries, salons, clothing stores, and the first location of Tim Hortons! It’s a bit out of the way but not far enough for me to explore. It’s also in the same area as the beautiful Gage Park.Read More »

Novemburger

Novemburger Tour in Hamilton 2015

In 2014, Urbanicity launched their first Novemburger festival in the awesome city of Hamilton. It gathered Hamiltonians and neighbours in the surrounding cities to check out local restaurants, while raising funds for the United Way in our community. Restaurants showcased one special burger for the month of November and we got to rate them. I wasn’t able to check out the event last year, so I made sure to participate this year! Of course a few Hamilton foodies were all over this and I tagged along.Read More »

Buonanotte

Buonanotte Toronto

Situated on the quiet street off Blue Jays Way, Buonanotte is a classy establishment alongside Milagro Cantina, Le Germain Hotel, and Victor Restaurant. The façade doesn’t seem like much; brick walls, large rectangular windows, and a dark grey Buonanotte flag. The entrance has a beautiful set of wooden doors under an arched concrete structure. Inside, the décor will take your breath away. The first thing I noticed was the magical golden grid ceiling. It brought the atmosphere to a new level of class. The stunning space consists of a gorgeous bar along the left side, a kitchen and a pizza oven along the back, and a spacious dining area to the right. The dark mood reflects the intimate atmosphere and an artistic connection to the dishes. The dining area seats an impressive 160 guests with seating arrangements that accommodate small to large parties. Ok, I’m done reminiscing about the space, on to the food!Read More »

Culantro

Culantro has been on my list of Hamilton-restaurants-to-check-out for a while and the opportunity finally came. It started with a tweet about the special for the day – beef hearts and pork belly tamales. Hamilton foodies united and we made a reservation. Culantro is a very small eatery on King Williams beside The Baltimore House. The dining area seats only about 20 people because it’s run by chef and owner, Juan Castillo. He is a one-man-show in the kitchen and sometimes, front-of-house! Juan’s approach is to introduce his treasured family recipes to the table by presenting them in a familiar way and making it affordable.Read More »
