The Works Burger

I’ve been meaning to check out The Works ever since my friend, Bobby, recommended it to me. Back then, I only knew of their Guelph location but now they’ve opened two locations in Hamilton. I was invited to check out the ‘Get Stuff’d’ menu and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on those burgers. On their regular menu, they have tons of burger combinations (41 to be exact) and toppings for you to choose from. Of course, you can create your own masterpiece or choose from their recipes.

I had my eye on the ‘Loaded Lucy’ from the Get Stuff’d menu. Michelle got the Burgeroni and Emmeline got the Son of a Beech. Along with our burgers we ordered spicy slaw. Fries, and deep fried pickles, Yes, deep fried, juicy, sour pickles. Our drinks came first and I was a little surprised at the vessel they came in. No, it wasn’t a mason jar. They went above and beyond hipster-land and used liquid measuring cups, you know, the Pyrex kind! I thought that was hilarious!

Our burgers came altogether in awesome tin trays – great for messy eaters. They were towering pretty high and looked delicious with all the toppings.

The Loaded Lucy was stuffed with cheese and topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion, and mayo. My patty was juicy and plump. The bun was fantastic – airy, not too dense, and it held up everything really well in-between.

The Son of a Beech was topped with avocado, beach house sauce, sundried tomatoes, and feta cheese. It definitely sounds like a summertime burger! The Burgeroni was stuffed with A LOT of chorizo and topped with pizza sauce, mozzarella, onion, and pepperoni. If you’re into pizza, you’d love this burger.

The spicy slaw actually had a kick to it. Emmeline and I were able to handle the spice but Michelle, on the other hand, choked on it immediately. It had a decent burn and I was quite impressed.

These gourmet burgers were a bit on the pricey side $12-18 but you also got a massive burger and a side. The staff were helpful and patient – probably because they understand that the menu is colossal and a tad intimidating for first-timers (aka me). The Get Stuff’d menu changes pretty often but it’s nice to see new creations brought to life. Check out The Works in downtown Hamilton on King Street West or on the mountain on Upper James if you’d like to get down on some dope burgers. They also have punny names 😛
