I had my first Burger’s Priest at their Queen Street location in Toronto about two years ago. Did you know the original restaurant where the Buffalo wing was invented opened up in Hamilton recently? They’ve been here, in Jackson Square, for a couple of years! Originating from, of course, Buffalo, NY, the restaurant is proud of its history. Anchor Bar just renovated the dining area and plan to spruce up their roof-top patio for the summer months. The restaurant can be accessed at street level off King Street West across from the Art Gallery of Hamilton, or inside Jackson Square across from the LCBO. The interior is spacious with grey walls, flatscreens, and a pizza station in the middle. There’s a modern sports bar vibe in this family-friendly environment, perfect for a casual dinner watching your favourite sports teams duke it out.
I’ve been meaning to check out The Works ever since my friend, Bobby, recommended it to me. Back then, I only knew of their Guelph location but now they’ve opened two locations in Hamilton. I was invited to check out the ‘Get Stuff’d’ menu and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on those burgers. On their regular menu, they have tons of burger combinations (41 to be exact) and toppings for you to choose from. In 2014, Urbanicity launched their first Novemburger festival in the awesome city of Hamilton. It gathered Hamiltonians and neighbours in the surrounding cities to check out local restaurants, while raising funds for the United Way in our community. Restaurants showcased one special burger for the month of November and we got to rate them. I wasn’t able to check out the event last year, so I made sure to participate this year! Situated in the busy area of King Street East, Serve Ping Pong is a space with 10,000 sq. ft. of entertainment and good eats. What once used to be the Hamilton Spectator Building, they have transformed the desolate space into a modern lounge fully equipped with brand spanking new ping pong tables, an eating area, a private room, and a beautiful bar. The hardwood floors, wooden pillars, decorative ceilings, and brick walls transport you back to simpler times. Once you step in, you’d be amazed at the amount of open space. Sitting on the corner of Dundas and Dufferin, The Lockhart has non-pretentious décor, chatty staff and a dark atmosphere. The cocktail menu and the furnishings will easily draw you in even if you don’t catch on to the little Easter eggs throughout the bar. Inside, you’ll find exposed brick walls, wood and metal furnishings, an assortment of chairs, simple murals, a beautiful bull skull, a neon sign saying “all was well”, and a glass bar lined with pennies. If you get a chance, take a seat at the bar. You’ll be able to see all the action and talk to the staff about the menus.

After hearing about Saltlick’s opening on James Street North in Hamilton, I was on a mission to try it out. Why? Because it’s a smokehouse. I discovered my love for the smoky flavour when I sat in front of my first campfire. I instantly relax whenever I think about the comforting, warm aroma. My first encounter with smoked food was a slice of smoked salmon and since then I never stopped eating it. I’ve never had a weirder dining experience than Hanmoto, and it’s a good-weird! The weirdness starts even before you step foot in the restaurant. How? Well, I wouldn’t say it’s hard to find but it wasn’t exactly easy – good luck trying to find a sign because you won’t find one. Just look for a building façade with 3 red lights and wood paneling. This Japanese izakaya is the sister restaurant to Oddseoul on Ossington.
