Matsuri Sushi

Matsuri Sushi in Dundas has been highly recommended by my friend, Sid, for as long as I’ve known him and I finally went to check it out. Surprisingly, I haven’t explored the sushi bars in Hamilton but I’ve heard good things about Joya, and Kampai (the only one I’ve visited). Of course, we have the usual all-you-can-eat joints like Spring Sushi, August 8, Sapporo, and Tatemono but I’d rather indulge in fresh fish than mediocre sushi. I’ve recently been dragging my friends to a few restaurants on James Street North in Hamilton including Saltlick, Charred, Jack & Lois, and Mulberry Street Café. Every time we wander around, we also discover other restaurants to check out. This time we stopped-in at Acclamation – across the street from Mulberry Street Café. The interiors and exteriors are elegant, neutral, and classy. Deep wooden fixtures and furniture sit in a romantic, cozy space. The staff are friendly, respectful, and patient. We had two gluten-intolerant diners in our party and they were able to find a few items to suit their needs.

Kampai

After hearing good things about Kampai, I had to see for myself. I brought my mom here on a Sunday night, we arrived around 6:30pm and got a seat right away. Kampai has been at this location for 8 years and they have their regular customers. The interior consists of traditional Japanese décor with a sushi bar a regular bar.
