A few friends and I headed to Ottawa Street to check out Caro, the new Italian restaurant that sprung up in the East end. Right at the corner of Ottawa and Main, this bright restaurant adds to the eclectic collection of shops over there. Sunlight beams in from the two street-side windows of this classically modern space, fantastic lighting for photos. The first thing you’ll notice is the red tiled back splash behind the bar. Noodz. Where did this word even come from? Well, I’m sure with the slightly immature minds of many people out there, the word would appear sooner or later. I can’t pin point the exact date when it popped into my conversations with my good friend, Ken, but I definitely remember we joked around endlessly about noodz close to half a year to a year ago. We talked about eating noodles a lot, like it turned into a weekly thing. And of course, our minds needed to give it a better, shorter, more appropriate name, noodz.

I’ve been waiting for the opening of CIMA since the owners’ of Romano’s mentioned it. Once the Cheese Shoppe on Locke closed down, they jumped at the opportunity. I was ecstatic that the restaurant was going to be Italian because it’s one of my favourites! The annual event is back in Hamilton for its 4th year in a row. Feast for St. Joseph’s is a month-long fundraising event between February 19th to March 19th. Six local Hamilton restaurants are participating and 10% of your food sale is being donated to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation.
These recipes are for those who get bored of the same old tomato sauce. I still love tomato sauce but sometimes I like to change it up and take my taste buds on an adventure.
Barilla figured out the perfect pasta-to-water ratio to cook without draining! All I had to do was cook a box of pasta in 3 cups of cold water for 10 minutes, or until all the water is gone. And BAM, done. Just needed to stir a couple times and that’s it. Toss in you sauces or seasoning and you’re good to go.
Summer is here and we only have a few months of beautiful weather before it all goes downhill. So this calls for a lot of potlucks, BBQs, and impromptu backyard dinner parties. Sometimes I just want to throw together easy appetizers without having to use too much brain power trying to be creative. Cured meats have always been a crowd pleaser. It was Victoria Day long weekend in Canada, so I decided to drive 8 hours to visit Sally in New York City! With only 48 hours, we did as much as we could and tried to avoid the typical tourist-destinations. Some of you may know that my favourite cuisine is Italian and I’m always down for some pizza and pasta in Hamilton. Romano’s has apparently been around for a while but this was the first time I’ve heard of them. They’re located all the way in the East end on the Mountain in Stoney Creek. The restaurant is cozy, warm with modern European decor, sectioned dining areas and a partially open kitchen. Staff are all welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. Niagara Parks hosted their annual Niagara Chef Showcase at Legends on the Niagara complex on April 3rd, 2016. 7 Niagara Parks’ chefs and 3 local chefs showed their talent by creatively executing sample dishes of locally sourced products. Did you know the original restaurant where the Buffalo wing was invented opened up in Hamilton recently? They’ve been here, in Jackson Square, for a couple of years! Originating from, of course, Buffalo, NY, the restaurant is proud of its history. Anchor Bar just renovated the dining area and plan to spruce up their roof-top patio for the summer months. The restaurant can be accessed at street level off King Street West across from the Art Gallery of Hamilton, or inside Jackson Square across from the LCBO. The interior is spacious with grey walls, flatscreens, and a pizza station in the middle. There’s a modern sports bar vibe in this family-friendly environment, perfect for a casual dinner watching your favourite sports teams duke it out.
