Matsuri Sushi
Matsuri Sushi in Dundas has been highly recommended by my friend, Sid, for as long as I’ve known him and I finally went to check it out. Surprisingly, I haven’t explored the sushi bars in Hamilton but I’ve heard good things about Joya, and Kampai (the only one I’ve visited). Of course, we have the usual all-you-can-eat joints like Spring Sushi, August 8, Sapporo, and Tatemono but I’d rather indulge in fresh fish than mediocre sushi. Aberdeen Tavern
The stars aligned and I finally found an occasion (my birthday) to visit the infamous Aberdeen Tavern of Hamilton. They’ve been on my Places-to-Eat-in-Hamilton list since I started it a few years ago. It was also a last minute decision to even go out to celebrate because my plans for the evening fell through and my mom suggested we celebrate early. Jax Sweet Shoppe
Who knew this sweet shoppe served brunch! Instead of hitting up another downtown Hamilton spot, I met up with my usual brunch crew in Dundas. We planned on eating at Detour but we found out they had a limited menu, so we skipped over to Jax Sweet Shoppe. A cute little diner in a collonial-looking building right on King Street. The space is small with enough seating for 20 people. It’s a straight-up diner with glossy steel tables, round and colourful chairs, walls filled with photographs, neon lights, and a retro CocaCola cooler with bottled Coke. Along the left are ice cream coolers and cases full of cookies, tarts, and cakes!Read More »
FSH & CHP
King William Street is undergoing so many changes and the most recent addition is FSH & CHP. In complete contrast to their brother next door (HAMBRGR), FSH & CHP focuses on the fresh goodies from the ocean. The bright space only fits about 20 people, so expect to wait on busy days. Inside, you’ll find white paneling with cute nautical decor, I super duperly love the Edison light bulbs with rope weaving throughout the chandelier. It might get a bit stuffy while you eat but you can escape to the washroom to cool down (the AC game is strong in there).
Knob Creek Bourbon Nights
I’ve been exposed to the world of bourbon by our awesome host of the evening, Matt Jones. This dude has a vault full of facts and tidbits about Jim Beam, Knob Creek, and Basil Haydens! The event was hosted at the fun and eclectic space of The Mule on King William Street. Chef Matt Johnny prepared a southern feast complimenting the roots of our bourbon drinks.Read More »
Uno Mas
It’s finally here! Mezcal TNT‘s lil bro served up some tasty dishes this past weekend during their soft opening. Located just downstairs, Uno Mas has the same atmosphere and serves tapas and pintxos. What are those, you ask? They are small dishes of appetizers and snacks that are meant to be shared with the table, which means eating family-style! The space is a little larger, filled with wooden high tops and industrial bar stools. Beautiful graphic murals liven up the cave-like space, along with authentic photographs and paintings in ornate and decorative frames. The bar sits at the back of the restaurant, showing off their collection of unique drinking vessels and liquors. I gotta say, their washrooms are pretty cute too!

Ever since they popped up on my Twitter feed, I’ve been waiting to try out their menu. Also, when Chanry mentioned they had raclette, it was over. I was going to put in 110% to be their first customer or make it to their soft opening. Since we’re such dedicated foodies, we made it to both. Chanry, Sid, and I went to their first #SundaySocial, then a couple days later, Matt joined us at their soft opening.

48 Hours in New York City
It was Victoria Day long weekend in Canada, so I decided to drive 8 hours to visit Sally in New York City! With only 48 hours, we did as much as we could and tried to avoid the typical tourist-destinations. I told Sally I wanted a local-tour AKA a hipster-tour, bring me to all the restaurants and areas where I can appreciate the food, architecture, and atmosphere. Romano’s Ristorante
Some of you may know that my favourite cuisine is Italian and I’m always down for some pizza and pasta in Hamilton. Romano’s has apparently been around for a while but this was the first time I’ve heard of them. They’re located all the way in the East end on the Mountain in Stoney Creek. The restaurant is cozy, warm with modern European decor, sectioned dining areas and a partially open kitchen. Staff are all welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. I came here twice within a month, so you can tell how much I already love them.Read More »
