La Banane

Nestled on the cozy street of Ossington, La Banane is a seafood wonderland hidden behind a simple storefront. You’ll easily spot the restaurant from the poppin’ yellow door and metallic gold sign against an all-blue facade. Inside, you’re transported back into the art deco era of gold furnishings, huge geometric patterns, intricate chandeliers, and glamorous decor.Read More »

MeNami Toronto

MeNami

I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of Han Ba Tang‘s food all over Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Make sure you check them out if you’re into Korean fusion food and cocktails. Well, the owner, Chae, has ventured into Japanese food focusing on authentic oriental noodles with western sauces using modern presentation and featuring many different types of Sake. Chef Kevin Shin traveled to Kaga (the original town of udon) to train under the udon masters. The day before MeNami‘s grand opening, some foodies were invited to get a sneak peak at the menu.Read More »

Jamie’s Italian Yorkdale

You’ve probably seen Jamie Oliver’s face on the Food Network, around the world, and all over Sobey’s Better Food to Canadians campaign. I remember the days when I’d watch his cooking show, Oliver’s Twist, where he would pump out incredibly simple dishes in a casual and laid back way. His kitchen on-set was fun and bright with bluish-purple walls and a collection of jars and containers for various spices, herbs, and dried goods. His personality was down-to-earth and it just seemed like he wanted to spread his knowledge about food with everyone.Read More »

Sushi Legend

Our family friends highly recommended the restaurant and I also read fantastic reviews on Zomato. Just to be on the safe side, we made a reservation before heading out. The restaurant was easy to find with plenty of parking in the plaza. To our surprise, the restaurant was packed with customers waiting outside. It was a Thursday night and we didn’t expect to see it at full capacity.Read More »

The Westerly

I used to visit Toronto pretty often to see my grandparents or catch up with my good friend, Silly Sally. But ever since she chased her dreams and moved to New York City, my trips to Toronto have simmered down. There are thousands of restaurants out there and I’m not sure if I’ll ever try them all. It’s so hard to pick a restaurant to dine at because both Sally and I cannot make fast decisions. It usually takes us a couple of days to research and decide on a place to stuff our faces. She was back in the city, so of course we met up for brunch. We booked a reservation since Torontonians LOVE their brunch and most places are insanely packed.Read More »

Buonanotte

Buonanotte Toronto

Situated on the quiet street off Blue Jays Way, Buonanotte is a classy establishment alongside Milagro Cantina, Le Germain Hotel, and Victor Restaurant. The façade doesn’t seem like much; brick walls, large rectangular windows, and a dark grey Buonanotte flag. The entrance has a beautiful set of wooden doors under an arched concrete structure. Inside, the décor will take your breath away. The first thing I noticed was the magical golden grid ceiling. It brought the atmosphere to a new level of class. The stunning space consists of a gorgeous bar along the left side, a kitchen and a pizza oven along the back, and a spacious dining area to the right. The dark mood reflects the intimate atmosphere and an artistic connection to the dishes. The dining area seats an impressive 160 guests with seating arrangements that accommodate small to large parties. Ok, I’m done reminiscing about the space, on to the food!Read More »

New Northern Dumplings

Whenever my family and I get stuck on deciding on a restaurant for dinner, we somehow end up at New Northing Dumplings on Silver Star Boulevard in Markham. We keep going back because their dishes are less greasy compared to the majority of Chinese restaurants. The dishes are cold (tossed together like a salad), steamed, cooked in broth or boiled. There are also fried items but the cooking methods are pretty balanced. It’s a family-friendly restaurant with minimal effort put into interior design. The restaurant runs efficiently where staff will waste no time in taking you order to clearing tables. Near the back of the restaurant you’ll find ladies preparing and making fresh dumplings all day.Read More »

Toronto Food & Wine Festival

Toronto FOOD & WINE Festival

My adventure to the Toronto FOOD & WINE Festival started in Hamilton. Before I left, I checked the website for directions and parking. Since it was hosted at the Evergreen Brickworks, parking was very limited. The festival offered free off-site parking and free shuttle to the venue! As someone who loves to drive everywhere, I really appreciated their shuttle service, props to the planning team. The rain came pouring down as I left Hamilton and it miraculously ended when I arrived at the parking lot. The weather just wanted to ruin my drive and delay me from getting to all the food! It took me more than 1.5 hours to get there.Read More »

The Lockhart

The Lockhart

Sitting on the corner of Dundas and Dufferin, The Lockhart has non-pretentious décor, chatty staff and a dark atmosphere. The cocktail menu and the furnishings will easily draw you in even if you don’t catch on to the little Easter eggs throughout the bar. Inside, you’ll find exposed brick walls, wood and metal furnishings, an assortment of chairs, simple murals, a beautiful bull skull, a neon sign saying “all was well”, and a glass bar lined with pennies. If you get a chance, take a seat at the bar. You’ll be able to see all the action and talk to the staff about the menus.
